ROB'S NEW FILM VERY TIMELY - January 6, 2012

Multiple Award-Winning Filmmaker, Robert X. Golphin's new film, "I AM MAN", due to bow soon, proves to be a very timely and important project.

Just today, the FBI: Federal Bureau of Investigation broadened the United States' archaic definition of rape to include males as victims. In 2010, the FBI reported a forcible rape every 6.2 seconds. This new definition will undeniably affect this statistic in a grim manner.

"I AM MAN" centers on a man who after facing an unspeakable crime, finds that everything that makes him a man is gone. Maybe now even the trust of his lover.

Synopsis:

After one night at a party, a college hoops star named Taurus (Elwood Idris Simon) has his whole world flipped upside down. He makes a shocking admission to his girlfriend (D'Arcy Fellona) that will change the course of their relationship forever. Feeling like less of a man, Taurus encounters only women at every turn. With his sanity on the line, he must race against the clock in order to save himself, and just maybe save his relationship, too.

Director Statement:

I was raised mostly by women - My mother, two aunts and two grandmothers. They taught me very valuable lessons and continue to do so today. But one that always sticks with me is how I am expected to treat women. It is more than just being respectful, caring and loving. It is also about being careful.

I was told and am often reminded to be careful of the women I am around, especially those with whom I am not well-acquainted. For instance, if I were to visit the home of a female friend and only her female roommate is there, it may behoove me to leave and return later. Why, you inquire? Simple.

This female roommate could accuse me of saying and/or doing something sinister. And it would not matter if I were innocent or guilty. If a woman accuses a man of something it is a safe bet that the man will be considered guilty until an actual court verdict is determined.

For years, this has always made me wonder. What if the tables were turned? What if instead of a woman making accusations against a man it was vice-versa?

After researching actual cases in the United States and abroad, I came to the realization that the truth needed to be exposed. This truth is one that men typically will not admit and women will typically not acknowledge. This was the catalyst for “I AM MAN”.

I eagerly anticipate the varied opinions of both women and men with regards to the themes in this film. It is sure to spark some debate. My hope is that whether one believes the events and people in this film, one will walk away with a sense of awareness and responsibility.
